Implant Monitoring and Exchange

If you have concerns with breast implants, specialised review is recommended.

Sometimes a swelling, lump or bulge can be felt. This is often due to scar tissue or folding of the implant, however Dr George will perform a thorough assessment to exclude concerning causes. If there is any swelling around the implant, Dr George recommends urgent review to exclude Breast Implant Related Anaplastic Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). This condition is uncommon and does not occur with implants currently used in the Australian market, but is associated with textured implants which were used several years ago and potentially still in use overseas.

Implants can change shape and position, rupture or harden. In such cases, the implant can be exchanged or removed altogether and the breast reshaped and its tissue revitalised. Dr George is able to offer a combination of techniques to achieve this.

Less commonly, the entire body can have an adverse reaction to implants, known as breast implant syndrome. Diagnosis is challenging and many other conditions can mimic this. Dr George has extensive knowledge into how these can be distinguished via appropriate line of investigations. He will guide you through every step of the process and advise what treatment is best for you.
