Pilonidal Surgery
Pilonidal disease occurs when a cyst or abscess forms near the tailbone, often due to trapped hair, dirt, and debris in between the upper buttock fold. This causes an inflammatory cavity and abscess which can subsequently discharge out via various pits and sinuses.
Pilonidal disease can be chronic and relapsing, leading to hospital presentation, impaired quality of life and costs. Dr George has a specialised interest in the latest treatments for this condition, which might include excision and washing out the inflamed cavity and placing normal healthy tissue in its place (via a reconstruction flap). The aim is to optimise healing and returning back to normal life as soon as possible.
